How would you describe your style of photography?
I specialise in relaxed, natural, reportage style wedding photography. I believe that your wedding photos should tell the story of your wedding day and reflect you as a couple. I don’t really do posing awkwardly or making you feel uncomfortable, instead I will blend into the background, capturing candid moments, only employing light direction occasionally and when requested in order to capture you and your guests at your very best.
Who will be taking our photographs?
As lead photographer and creative director of Mylo Photography, I, Kieran Collins, attend every wedding as your wedding photographer.
What is the benefit of having a second photographer?
The beauty of booking a second photographer means that you have another perspective on your wedding day. A second photographer means we can follow both of you through the “getting ready” process. This can be really special as it means you get to see what both of you got up to before the ceremony! It is also helpful me to have an assistant around to hold my cameras if I want to change lenses quickly or to hold my remote flashes if we fancy getting creative with light! A second photographer is a second set of eyes and can capture different angles meaning a greater variety of photographs. This also means when we are off shooting your couple portraits you can be assured the celebrations are being covered back at your venue.
What time will you start taking photographs on our wedding day?
Whenever you would like me to! I am all yours for the full day so we will be there from the moment you start getting ready. The getting ready photographs are often amongst my favourites as they really capture the feeling and anticipation for the day ahead. Some couples do not want “getting ready” pictures and that is fine, just let me know when and where you would like me to be and I will be there.
When will you leave?
I usually leave a little while after your first dance, but please be assured, I won’t leave until I am completely satisfied the shots I have tell the complete story of your wedding day. If you have something exciting happening in the evening that you would really like me to capture let me know and we can plan it in!
Do we need a love shoot?
It depends, it can be a really fun way of celebrating your engagement, a great way to get a lovely picture for your “save the dates”, a beginning to a lovely wedding planning scrapbook. They can also be a great way of feeling a bit more confident in front of the camera and a chance to practice a little bit of posing in advance of the big day! The best thing about them though, is that it gives me a chance to get to know you a bit better and that’s why I like them!
What equipment do you use?
I use two professional full frame DSLR Cameras and a range of zoom, art and prime L series professional grade lenses. This means your photos will be of the best possible quality. All of my equipment is serviced regularly.
Are you insured?
Yes, I carry full public liability insurance and all of our camera equipment is also insured.
What are your travel costs?
Travel costs are included within a 40 mile radius of Sheffield S1. We are happy to travel outside of Sheffield and indeed outside of the UK. Please contact me for more information and a individual quote.
How will you know what photos we want?
As part of your pre-wedding consultation, I will discuss any particular photos that you would like or requests you may have. That is the ideal time to make me aware of any special details that you want me to try and capture and to tell me about any special people you want me to focus on. I will have this list with us on the day and will endeavour, with your cooperation, to ensure these photographs are taken – unfortunately I cannot offer a guarantee, but I will do my best! Pre-wedding consultations can take place at my home, your home, your venue or via telephone/Skype if you are further away.
What about group shots?
Many couples like to have some posed photos with their family and friends. I try to make this period of time as painless as possible by discussing in advance the group shots that you would like so that people aren’t left standing around for extended periods of time. I will ask you to nominate a friendly helper that knows your friends and family to help us round people up on the day whilst they are still smiling! My recommendation is that you aim to keep you group shots to a maximum of 10-12.
Can our guests take photos too?
Of course they can! However, I do respectfully ask that they do not prevent us from doing our job effectively. We may, on occasion, have to ask a guest to refrain from blocking a particular shot – particularly if it is a picture that has been specifically requested by the bride and groom.
Will you work with our videographer?
I am very happy to! If you have booked a videographer already or are planning to do so please let me know in advance so I can make contact with them prior to your wedding day in order to coordinate our efforts to provide you with seamless coverage of your day. If you are interested in booking a videographer I am happy to provide recommendations.
What if it rains?
This is every happy couple’s nightmare, I know – it was my nightmare too! Unfortunately this is one aspect of your day over which we can have no control, but in the event of inclement weather, I will do everything that I can to ensure you still have amazing photos. I will research your venue thoroughly to see if there are any places to get beautiful undercover/indoor shots but the best piece of advice I can give you is not to worry about it too much, I have a range of umbrellas and will do my very best to make the best of any weather situations!
What happens if you are not able to attend on the day?
To miss your wedding, there would have to be an exceptionally good reason. However, worst case scenario, if this were to happen, I would endeavour to find a replacement photographer of similar competency to myself for you. If this were not possible and I had to cancel within 48 hours of your wedding taking place I would refund your fee in full.
Can we change our package?
If you want to change your package after booking, you may upgrade but not downgrade. If you have any questions, just contact me.
What if we want to cancel?
A £250 deposit is required at time of booking. You have a 14 day cooling off period, during which time if you choose to cancel, I will refund your deposit. After this time I would retain your deposit should you choose to cancel. However, if you wish to cancel within 12 weeks of your wedding date the full fee is required.
What if we change the date?
It is possible to change the date of your wedding, provided of course, I am available on your new date. If I am not, I do retain your deposit. If you change the date of your wedding within 12 weeks of your original wedding date and I am unavailable, full payment is required.
When do you require the balance of your fee?
The remaining balance is due 28 days before your wedding date.
How will you edit our pictures?
I use professional editing software to edit your wedding photographs in keeping with my own creative style but am always happy to take some input from my couples. I never batch process and work on each picture individually to ensure they are a perfect reflection of the moment captured. I only use filters occasionally, preferring to tune each picture retaining the authenticity of the colour and light available at the time. This ensures that your photographs won’t appear dated in years to come.
How do we book?
If you like what you see drop me an email so that I can check to see if I have your date free. If I do and you wish to proceed I will send you a contract to read and sign and I also take a £250 deposit. If you prefer to meet for a chat first that’s no problem at all. Your place, our place, your venue or out for tea and cake… let’s arrange it!
How will you supply our photographs?
Your photographs will be supplied (high and low resolution) on a beautifully packaged and presented USB for you to keep safe forever and to print and distribute however you desire. Your DVD slideshow is provided on a top quality disc for watching on a DVD player. The package will be posted to you by signed for, recorded delivery or if you prefer, can be collected in person from our home address at a mutually convenient time.
How long will it take to get our photos?
I aim to deliver your photographs within 5-6 weeks of the date of your wedding. During the summer months, delivery time may be extended to 6-8 weeks.
Can we do whatever we like with our photos?
The entire copyright of the photographs is retained by Mylo Photography at all times throughout the world. Where a disc of photographs has been provided to our couples as part of their wedding collection, these photographs may be printed and displayed online for personal but not commercial use.
We do, as Mylo Photography, retain the right in all cases to use your photographs in any manner at any time and in any part of the world for the purposes of advertising or otherwise promoting our work. Please see my terms and conditions for full details.
Do we need to provide you with food?
I do request to be provided with a hot meal on your wedding day. This doesn’t have to be anything fancy, a bar meal would be grand. I will eat when you eat so I don’t miss any of the action!
What will you wear?
I wear neutral clothing and soft soled shoes in order to be a stealth like as possible!
Can we contact you before the wedding?
Of course you can! My wife, Joanne, is always happy to chat weddings! Please feel free to email firstname.lastname@example.org. You can follow us on Twitter @mylo_photo Share pins with us on Pinterest or chat to us on Facebook.
We would love to get to know you before your Big Day! You might also like to follow the Mylo blog on our website where we feature real weddings and share advice, tips and guidance to help you with the planning process.
Any other advice?
I really recommend that brides have a comfortable pair of flat shoes with them to change into for couple shots – I love nothing more than going for a ramble in a nearby field or getting out into the country side during golden hour – this can be tricky in a pair of stilettos!
